Thankyou Fairbanks!
Hello again from The David Stevens band. Well it was curling club weekend again and we had a great time. It was a little hectic. We played at Big Daddy's from 7:30 to 10:15 and and then hustled over to the curling club Bonspiell 75th anniversary party from 10:30 to 2:30 friday and saturday. We were overwhelmed with the response this year. We had a great time and people danced for about 4 hours each nite. Our new "Text your Request" seems to be quite popular. We have had over 150 text requests since we started it about two weeks ago at Big Daddy's. Although we do not know a lot of the request we review them and decide if we should maybe learn them. Once again thankyou Fairbanks for making Darren and David's Bonspiel weekend a memorable event in our performance archives.

Back at it, We have started Fridays and Saturdays again, this time with longer hours. We are now playing from 7:00 to 10:30. We will be off for two weekends, May 29 and 30 and June 5 and 6 of 2009. Then back to work on the 12 and 13 of June for the rest of the summer and holiday season. We are now booking for the Holiday season and any other special occasions. We have made arrangements with Big Daddy himself, so we can free ourselves up if need be. We have added many new songs as well as keeping up the old ones. Darren is doing great as usual and you may notice some new equipment. A new digital lighting system and some top of the line digital drums that are so much fun to play that I some times get a little carried away. :) but not too much of course. Anyway stop in and see us sometime and mention that you have been to the blogspot. Here is a picture of a 1983 gig a growden field "Modern science" opening for Steppenwolf. Were you there?

Scary!!
We tried something new and different tonight. At the suggestion of one of our lovely fans's and friends Rosie!, we put a list of the 250 plus songs out so people could make requests off the list. I was scared shitless!! I don't know why I just was. One, I thought people would think we were too corny, two, maybe people just didn't give a crap, three, I get set in my ways and it is hard to
change. Well it turns out that it went over pretty well. We got specific requests from about
3 tables. That is good for starters i think. I also liked it because it gives me a feel about what the audience is into hearing. I am always amazed at how wrong I am at profiling a crowd!
Too put it shortly, it was kind of Fun!!!!

A little history!
David Stevens Band
The David Stevens Band was formed in 1996 and played at the Castle Restaurant For 11 years. During that time the band shaped the songs to fit most Alaskan music Tastes.
With a song list of over 250 songs the band can cover most venues. The band now consists of David Peck on drums, vocals, programming and spokesman. Darren Gallagher plays guitar, vocals and backgrounds vocals as well as electronic setup and inventing new set ups. The band has played many places such as, The Castle, Jalepeno’s, Lower La, and other nightclubs in the Fairbanks area. Currently we are at Big Daddy’s Barbeque and been there close to two years.
We are already booking for Christmas parties this year. Last year was Osbourne contruction, Gvea, and The shriners. We have also played the International Bonspiel two years running.

Wedding Season!
The wedding season has begun. We are very happy to do weddings as long as we know ahead of time
what to expect and what songs need to be learned . I (David) have played many wedding receptions on the east coast. I was in wedding band called "Mystique" (isn't that beautiful). We did about 3 weddings per weekend, one on Friday and usually two on Saturday. In the Springfield Mass., area there are wedding halls that only host wedding receptions. One I can remember was called the "Chez Joseph". A very posh place with at least 20 rooms available for big weddings. Most of the weddings were huge with desert tables a mile long. The bands were not allowed to mingle with the guests and our meal was given to us in a back room area away from the wedding crowd. We had to dress according to the colors of the wedding with matching cumberbunds and bow ties.
Here in Fairbanks Darren and I have done weddings with not so much pressure, but we can handle what ever is put in front of us, with a song list of over 253 songs and adding weekly to that list we feel that we really are one of the few bands that can handle a casual, or extremely structured event.

Free CD (almost)!
I guess I will try this. To anyone that comes into Big Daddy's Saturday night March 21,2008 between 8 and 11 PM and makes a comment on the blog and mentions this blog to me or Darren, I will then give a free CD of original music by The David Stevens Band. Isn't this exciting! It would be nice if you had dinner or a beverage also. That's why I say "Almost Free"! Hope to see you there, beings how I have had only one reply to my blog, we should be allright!

New songs this week
Well Darren and I have decided to try "Saturday Night Special" and try to
see how "Easy" works out. I know our later crowd will like a new Skynard song and Easy
has always worked at getting the more mature crowd up dancing so will see how it goes. We should have a pretty good weekend at Big Daddy's people are starting to go out a little more. January was pitiful but it always is in Fairbanks.
What we like about playing there is we get a all ages crowd, little kids really get into seeing a band and they get right out on the dance floor. One of our favorite fans is Vinny he is about 8 or 9 and his parents bring him in and he really gets into it. I know he likes the rock and roll stuff
because he really starts bopping his head. The mellower stuff he could do without probably. See you all this weekend.!!
